Chaney Speaks to States Largest AARP Chapter
RICHLAND, MS – Mike Chaney, Republican Nominee for Commissioner of Insurance, spoke to the American association of Retired People yesterday at the Richland Community Center. This is the state’s largest AARP chapter.
The meeting was held to discuss issues that affect the AARP delegation, particularly insurance availability and reform. “Insurance is a cornerstone of our economy.” said Chaney. “As Commissioner of Insurance, it would be my job to protect 2.9 million Mississippian’s and not special interest groups.”
“People of this state had to endure an unprecedented natural disaster in Hurricane Katrina. To have Insurance companies leave some policyholders with nothing more than a slab because of some fine print technicality is reprehensible.” said Chaney. “There needs to be a clear contract between policyholders and insurance companies.”
Health insurance was a major topic at the meeting. “Health insurance is vital to so many Mississippian’s survival in an emergency. I will dedicate myself to providing available, accountable and affordable insurance.”
Chaney also spoke about the importance of making sure that you fully understand your own policy. “Understanding your policy is as important as the policy itself. If you don’t know what you have bought, then you may as well not have bought anything at all.”
The Democratic Nominee for Insurance Commissioner was invited to discuss these issues, but was not in attendance.
